A Little About Madison

Madison de Rozario - Paralypian

Talented and individual, 14 year old Madison hails from Perth in Western Australia. Targeting the London Paralympics in 2012, she was surprised when her goal was short-circuited with her inclusion in the Beijing Games this year.

“I’m not going to complain,” she says with a laugh. Instead Madison has put a great deal into her training and insists she will be competitive come September.

A victim of Transverse Myelitis, Madison was a paraplegic at the age of four. Not staying down for long, her zest kept her involved in everything. She tried her hand at tennis, basketball, swimming, archery – she liked it, but it did not spark anything special inside of her.

It wasn’t until she took up wheelchair racing in October 2006 did she find something she really wanted to put her mind to. And so she did.

Her improvement has been staggering, culminating in her being named WA’s Rookie of The Year in 2007. “I remember my first 100 metre race when I was beaten by a lap,” she jokes. It seemed so long ago but it’s been less than two years.

Madison is incredibly dedicated, hard working and goal driven. There is no doubt her sporting future is bright and we’ll be seeing more of this energetic young lady.
